REGENERATING CONSCIOUSNESSES TO RECONNECT WITH OUR ROOTS

OUR PRIORITIES

CONSERVATION - EDUCATION - TRANSITION

The mission of Arrels Marines is to protect and preserve the beauty of the Balearic Sea and our islands through the development of projects included in our 3 fundamental pillars: marine conservation, environmental education and ecosocial transition. We want to be a reference in the conservation and regeneration of the Balearic sea while promoting, at the same time, the active participation of the island's population in the preservation of the ecosystems that sustain us.

Marine Conservation

Climate change and the constant impact of the human footprint on the environment are seriously jeopardizing the sustainability and ecological balance of many of our islands' marine ecosystems. Motivated by this, our marine conservation program contemplates projects in very varied fields, such as studies of environmental impacts in highly anthropized areas, studies, analysis and proposals for new marine reserves, marine conservation activities or regeneration and restoration of marine phanerogams with the aim of protecting and preserving the beauty of the Balearic sea.

Environmental Education

Regardless of the clear environmental benefits that come about as a result of restoring ecosystems, any steps towards their protection would be short lived without a change in how we interact with them. Thus, our education program aims at creating a link between the local community and the sea, introducing them to the unique characteristics of the Balearic Sea, its hidden treasures and, above all, the importance it has for our society. We believe in fostering empathy towards the natural environment and giving people the knowledge they need to self-regulate their behaviour.

Ecosocial Transition

The ecosocial transition program is the one that anchors us to the daily reality of our home, the Balearic Islands. All the impacts that affect the Balearic Sea come from or are directly related to the land. The pressure exerted on the territory and the geophysical limits of the islands are beginning to pose a real challenge in terms of basic needs coverage such as water, food or energy, among others. For this reason, we do not want to limit our work to the sea and we are creating projects that address the ecosocial crisis in an attempt to make our islands a more resilient place.
